Hello, I’m Claire!
I’m an artist / mixed media painter living and working in Leeds, Yorkshire in the North of England.
At the heart of my art practice is my love of playing with materials to achieve unexpected and atmospheric results, and my fascination with walking in the historic woodlands near my home in North Leeds.
My current work is a series of semi-abstract 'tree-scapes' that try to capture the sense of history and mystery that I feel when I’m enveloped in the woods. I translate the experiences of my regular woodland walks into richly layered paintings, using a wide range of mixed-media and monoprinting techniques. I often incorporate photo transfers of my own photographs taken in the woods within my paintings, building up many layers of ‘history’ in one piece, to create evocative images that try to capture the magic and drama of being amongst trees.
